After his studies in Physical Education at the KU Leuven, Maarten decided media was more his cup of tea. He earned a postgraduate in Journalism at the VLEKHO in Brussels. After his studies, he started as a reporter and presenter for the regional broadcasting station of Brabant, where he presented the news program. In 2005 he wanted to try another approach; after five years of working as a freelancer, he started as a full time sports journalist at VRT. In 2008 he became sports anchor at Het Journaal for the tv channel Eén. In 2016, Maarten became football presenter of the Euros and replaced Lieven van Gils in the show Vive Le Velo. In his new show Wereldrecord, Maarten takes a look into seven world records in sports.
