Daan is a thinker, dreamer & maker who does not believe in ‘not possible’. Along with his team of designers & engineers at Studio Roosegaarde he works towards a better future. Together they develop ‘landscapes of the future’ . Social designs that merge technology & art in urban environments, city prototypes or artworks that explore the relation between people, technology & city space.

Driven by nature's gifts, Daan’s fascination for nature & technology is reflected in iconic designs such as Smart Highway (roads which charge from sunlight and glow at night), Waterlicht (which shows the force of water) and Smog Free Project in Beijing (the largest outdoor air purifier which makes jewellery from smog). Projects that often employ light and sensing technology in an interactive manner.

We live in a time when there is not a lack of money or technology, but a lack of imagination, and the leadership to activate that imagination.

Daan has won endless innovation, tech & design awards & his work has been exhibited worldwide from Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Tate Modern, the Design Museum in London to the Tokyo National Museum.

With his futuristic city prototypes & one-of a kind artworks, Daan illuminates the intersection of technology, humanity & urban environments is his own & very unique way.
